Vinegar And Baking Soda
Who can miss the famous vinegar and baking soda method? First pour a kettle of hot, bubbling water down your drain. This will soften the stubborn clogs and loosen it up. Now pour around a cup of baking soda and let it sit for 15 minutes. Mix vinegar and water in a 1:1 ratio and pour down the drain. Cover it. The vinegar will react with the baking soda and cause the clog to loosen and fall down. Let it sit for an hour or so and then pour another kettle of boiling hot water.
Salt And Hot Water
This is a mild method so you will have to repeat 3 to 4 times but it will solve your problem for some time. Salt is naturally antibacterial as well as odor cleaner. Pour a cup of salt and let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes. Then pour around a liter of boiling water. Repeat after 10 minutes.
Use A Plunger
A plunger is a manual tool with a rod at one end and a rubber suction cup at the other. Clear your sink and put the cup end tightly on the drain and plunge it. The air suction will cause the drain clogs to clear through air pressure.
Use A Drain Snake
A drain snake is a tool with one end curved to take out any clog or debris stuck inside your drain pipes. You will insert it through your sink and let it go till you feel any sort of obstruction or obstacle. Once you feel you should pull that out instantly or you can also push it down.
If you do not own a drink snake then worry not. You will need a wire hanger and a set of pliers. Unravel and straighten your wire hanger with the help of pliers and keep the curved end intact and there you have it, homemade drain snake. You can also hire a drain service for quick drain cleaning.
Clean The P-Trap
This is going to be a little dirty. A P-Trap is a small curved pipe which joins the sink line with the main pipe in the wall. The P-Trap is sometimes screwed with nuts and sometimes it is just twisted and fixed. Either way it is easy to open and take out. First you will need to clear off your sink and place an empty bucket under the sink as when you will take out the pipe, water and gunk will flow out. Now unscrew the pipe and clean it thoroughly, there will be all dirt of food debris, soap gunk, hair and other stuff which you will need to clean and throw. You can also clean the main pipe opening with the hand and extract all the gunk as you can. Make sure to clean the pipe without water and then fix it tightly and securely.
Use Caustic Soda
Caustic soda is known to have anti clog properties. It is made up of hydrogen peroxide. Dilute 3 cups of caustic soda in 3 liters of cold water. Pour it down the drain. Make sure you have worn gloves for safety. Let it sit for half an hour and follow it with a kettle full of boiling hot water. It can break up even the most stubborn debris and even hair.
Try these methods if you get a clog in your kitchen sink and see which works best for you. You should know that this is just a temporary fix and after that you should call an expert to fix the problem. But never select a drain cleaning service without any research. Search them online and ask from your family and friends so that you hire a reliable drain contractor Westchester.
